TapTechNews July 4th, A British man was sentenced to four months in prison for carrying a 6-inch long replica of the Master Sword from The Legend of Zelda in a public place.
48-year-old Anthony Bray was arrested in Nuneaton, Warwickshire after surveillance officers noticed him wandering around the town center with something in his hand and called the police.
When the police arrived, they found that Bray was holding a miniature replica of the Master Sword from the Legend of Zelda game. The sword has a blade of 6 inches (TapTechNews note: approximately 15.24 centimeters) and can be drawn by pressing a button. Even though Bray argued that the model was just a toy for entertainment, he was still arrested by the police on the charge of carrying a sharp weapon. It is known that Bray has multiple criminal records before, including burglary.
In the UK, it is illegal to carry most knives or any weapons in a public place unless there is a legitimate reason, the only major exception being a folding pocket knife with a blade length of no more than 3 inches (approximately 7.62 centimeters).
Bray admitted that if other members of the public saw this replica sword, they might find it threatening, but he insisted that he would never use it as a weapon. However, he was still sentenced to four months in prison and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154 (currently about 1429 RMB).
Inspector Spellman from the Warwickshire Police Patrol Investigation Unit said in a statement: We have a zero-tolerance policy for carrying sharp blades in public places, and Bray's behavior has violated this policy. You can find toys for entertainment that don't have a 6-inch blade, and you can also choose not to walk around the street with it in your hand. As long as Bray was slightly aware of this, he could have avoided any contact with us completely.
