TapTechNews October 11th news, according to the report released by the market research institution TechInsights on Wednesday, OLED panels, once regarded as a high-end feature of smartphones, have now become popular in various price ranges and replaced the market share of LCD panels. One of the key factors driving this trend is the introduction and expansion of Chinese OLED panel suppliers, who have promoted the penetration of OLED panels in the supply chain by increasing supply and offering competitive display panel pricing.
The agency said that Chinese OLED panel suppliers now occupy more than 45% of the market share. Significant changes have occurred in the smartphone display market, where China's local panel suppliers are in fierce competition with South Korean panel suppliers. In the first half of 2024, Samsung Display ranked first with more than 50% of the smartphone display market share, followed by BOE Technology and LG Display.
Including TCL China Star, Tianma Microelectronics and Visionox, other display suppliers have also achieved double-digit shipment growth during this period, supplying flexible OLED panels for the high-selling smartphones and foldable smartphones of OPPO, Xiaomi, vivo, Motorola and Honor.
According to TapTechNews' previous report, last month, the research report of CINNO Research pointed out that as the domestic flexible OLED production capacity continues to be released and continuously penetrates into the low-end product market, the global flexible OLED panel shipment volume continues to expand. In the second quarter of 2024, the global market flexible OLED (including folding) smartphone panel shipment volume was about 160 million pieces, a significant increase of 39.9% year-on-year and an increase of 17.5% quarter-on-quarter, with both year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter growth, accounting for 72.2% of the OLED smartphone panels, a decrease of 7.9 percentage points year-on-year and an increase of 2.7 percentage points quarter-on-quarter.
