TapTechNews July 11th news, on July 10th, the academic seminar on 'Information Theory: Classic and Modern' hosted by the China Institute of Communications and undertaken by Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications was held in Beijing. Relevant leaders from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the China Communications Standards Association and other units, many academicians and experts in related fields attended the meeting.
The meeting focused on the theoretical breakthroughs of Academician Zhang Ping of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications and his team in semantic information theory, key technologies of semantic communication, etc., and officially released the relevant situation of the international first outdoor test network for 6G communication and intelligent integration (hereinafter referred to as the '6G outdoor test network').
Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications introduced that the important paper 'The Mathematical Theory of Semantic Communication' of this team was published in the top journal 'Journal of Communications' in the field of communications in China, revealing that synonymy is the essential characteristic of semantic information. Starting from this core concept of synonymous mapping, a complete theoretical framework of semantic information theory is established, fully expanding the theoretical limit of the communication system. The semantic information theory proposed in this paper is the generalization and transcendence of the classic information theory and will become the guiding theory of modern semantic communication.
Zhang Ping said that under the guidance of semantic information theory, the team proposed a number of representative key technologies of semantic communication such as semantic base physical model, intelligent and simple coding transmission, and mode division multiple access, and built the international first outdoor test network for 6G communication and intelligent integration.
The test network verified that semantic communication can reach the 6G transmission capacity on the 4G link, and the semantic channel capacity breaks through the confinement of the Shannon limit on the communication system, and obtains a 10-fold performance improvement in the three core basic indicators of communication (TapTechNews note: capacity, coverage, efficiency). The above research results have formed a complete system from basic theory, key technologies to experimental verification.
Zhang Ping also said that the successful construction of this test network will provide a theoretical research and pre-verification environment for key technologies for universities, research institutes and other R & D institutions, lower the threshold of 6G research, form an innovative environment throughout the whole industry chain of theory, technology, standards and applications, and promote cross-field innovative cooperation.
