TapTechNews October 10th news, Takahashi Tetsuya, the chief operating officer of MonolithSoft, the developer of Nintendo's classic game series Xenoblade, and Inaba Michihiko, the game producer, said in an interview with CGworld that they are independently developing a brand new game engine.
Inaba Michihiko introduced that they are developing a new game engine based on the original engine of Xenoblade in 2010 and are striving to expand it and use it for other games. TapTechNews noticed that he also mentioned the currently developing model rendering and effect engine.
According to Takahashi Tetsuya, the company can no longer rely on limited human resources to complete all development work, so a new internal research and development department has been established. The establishment of this department aims to use new technologies to optimize the development process and reduce labor costs to meet the development needs of large-scale games.
Takahashi Tetsuya said that although there are challenges in independently developing and maintaining the engine, for MonolithSoft, this is a necessary investment because the existing third-party engines cannot meet their needs for game customization.
Currently, multiple teams of MonolithSoft are developing several technologies in parallel, including key modules such as the model rendering and effect engine, and these technologies will eventually be integrated into their new engine.
