According to the documents of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the ABS system equipped on some 2023 to 2024 Lyriq four-wheel drive models is too sensitive. General Motors said that when braking on a dry pavement and at a speed below 25 miles (TapTechNews note: about 40.23 kilometers) per hour, the ABS system may misactivate and continuously release the brake pressure. Simply put, this will lead to a decrease in braking performance or even brake failure, which will greatly increase the risk of accidents. General Motors claims that the problem stems from a software defect in the electronic brake control module.

This recall involves a total of 21,469 Lyriq models from 2023 to 2024, with a production date ranging from December 14, 2022, to August 5, 2024. General Motors began investigating potential problems in May this year and had previously received two accident reports suspected to be caused by ABS software problems resulting in brake failure. Although the company has not received other related accident reports and there is no record of casualties, it still decided to issue a recall notice on August 1. Dealers received the recall notice on August 8, and owners will be notified on September 23. Owners of Lyriq with the vehicle's OTA upgrade function enabled will solve the problem through software updates, and other owners can make an appointment to go to the local General Motors dealer for software upgrades.

Lyriq has a strong market performance this year, with sales increasing by 465% year-on-year, and a 441% increase in June year-on-year. In the second quarter of this year, Cadillac sold 7,294 Lyriqs, second only to the 10,069 Escalades sold, becoming the brand's second best-selling model.
