TapTechNews July 4 news, MINI will bring its all-new electric performance car MINI Cooper JCWE to the Goodwood Festival of Speed (held from July 11 to 14) next week to showcase the electrified future of the John Cooper Works model.
The camouflaged electric performance car will participate in the famous hill climb at Goodwood. It is known that the JCWE will be equipped with an 'advanced electric powertrain', which means that its power will be stronger than the existing 215 horsepower MINI Cooper SE.
More technical details will be announced at the launch. Previously, a camouflaged petrol version of the MINI Cooper JCW prototype won the same-class championship in the 24-hour Nürburgring race, heating up the arrival of the JCWE.
TapTechNews noticed that Stefan Floeck, the head of the MINI product line, previously said that the performance of the JCWE will be similar to that of the fuel version. For reference, the 0-60 miles per hour (TapTechNews note: approximately 99.78 kilometers)/hour acceleration time of the MINI Cooper SE is 6.7 seconds, while that of the previous-generation petrol JCW is 6.1 seconds.
Floeck hinted that the JCWE will continue to use a front-wheel drive and single-motor configuration. He said, 'For front-wheel-drive cars, an important advantage is a lower center of gravity because the battery pack is located under the chassis.'
Although Floeck said that the Cooper EV platform can be compatible with a dual-motor powertrain, it has not been confirmed which powertrain configuration the JCWE will adopt.
Floeck added that MINI has always been committed to creating an iconic 'go-kart driving feel'. He said, 'We also focus on the balance of the front and rear weight ratio. A lower center of gravity and a 50/50 front and rear weight distribution are more conducive to handling. On the other hand, the weight of electric vehicles is also relatively high. To deal with the higher weight, the choice of tires is crucial, and we will equip the JCWE with larger tires to improve handling.'
The all-new MINI Cooper JCWE will be officially unveiled this autumn.
