As TapTechNews understands, this study is based on a survey of 99,144 owners of 2024 model-year vehicles, evaluating consumer satisfaction 90 days after vehicle delivery. The results show that traditional automakers have improved in consumer satisfaction.

The overall score of Tesla has dropped from 878 points last year to 870 points this year, while the scores of brands such as Porsche, BMW, Dodge and Ram have increased.

Frank Hanley, senior director of automotive benchmarking at J.D. Power, said: Traditional automakers have been listening to the voices of consumers, and they have launched models that better meet the needs of consumers, including improving interior storage space, using higher-quality materials, and ensuring that functions are easy to use. For electric vehicles, the recently launched models of traditional automakers have surpassed Tesla in terms of consumer emotional attachment and excitement.

It should be noted that this survey is based on vehicle data registered between July 2023 and May 2024. Although the overall scores of Rivian and Tesla are relatively high, due to failure to meet the criteria of the research award, these two brands and Polestar have not received any awards. JDPower wrote in the award criteria: In any given award segment, at least three models must occupy 80% of the market share, or four models must occupy 67% of the market share, in order to issue the award. In the small car, medium premium car, large car, large premium car, compact sports car and medium sports car segments, these standards are not met, so no awards are issued.

In all evaluation categories, the infotainment system has the lowest score, with an average of 823 points, but still has a 5-point improvement compared to last year. Vehicles using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay generally rank higher, with average scores of 832 points and 840 points, respectively.

J.D. Power also pointed out that Tesla, Rivian and Polestar ranked lower in the 2024 Initial Quality Study released earlier this year because many electric vehicles require more repairs. In addition, Tesla's mobile app was rated as the best in the industry, and its website ranking is only second to Mercedes-Benz.
