TapTechNews July 31st news, according to CCTV News report today, the group standard of Safety Evaluation Method for Electric Vehicles - Part 1: Thermal Diffusion Protection of the Whole Vehicle was released on July 15th, and this part of the standard focuses mainly on the thermal runaway of the whole vehicle.
The safety evaluation method for electric vehicles will cover the entire life cycle of electric vehicles, running through the entire process of design, production, use, and scrapping of electric vehicles. The thermal diffusion protection of the whole vehicle standard explores safety risk points by studying fire safety test and evaluation techniques. With battery thermal runaway as the core content, it includes safety reminder, emergency rescue, fire protection, and data linkage in 4 dimensions and 11 indicators.
According to Min Zhaoyuan, director of the National New Energy Vehicle Quality Inspection and Testing Center (Chongqing), this evaluation method is to comprehensively and objectively evaluate from four dimensions to extend the passenger escape time in the case of thermal runaway of the whole vehicle, whether the door can be opened normally after thermal runaway, and create better conditions for passenger escape.
Experts said that the safety evaluation method for electric vehicles will be continuously improved in the next step. For example, after an electric vehicle has a collision accident, whether the mechanical protection function of the battery pack can avoid the battery from being squeezed, and the structure and materials used by the battery itself also need to be continuously improved to enhance the safety level.
TapTechNews learned from the report that the thermal runaway of the power battery is an uncontrollable phenomenon when the temperature rises during use. Improper charging behavior and behaviors such as bottom scraping or scratching, long-term soaking in water during use may all lead to the occurrence of thermal runaway of the power battery.
