TapTechNews noticed that in fact, since July 2022, all newly launched models in Europe have been mandatorily equipped with ISA systems. However, older models that were launched before this can temporarily escape from this technology.

The ISA system does not completely limit the vehicle from exceeding the speed limit, but gently guides drivers to comply with regulations by way of reminder. The European Union does not mandate specific reminder methods for automakers, and common options include audible and visual warnings, and even ways to increase the resistance of accelerator pedal depression.

Drivers can choose to ignore these reminders or even turn them off completely. However, every time the vehicle is restarted, the ISA system will be enabled by default.

The European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) has lobbied the European Union, hoping to automatically reduce the engine power when a vehicle reaches the speed limit, but it has been opposed by the automotive industry. This means that drivers can still use the full power when necessary, such as when there is a need to quickly avoid danger, or... those who just want to speed任性ly.

The ISA system can determine the speed at which the vehicle should travel by combining GPS data and traffic sign recognition cameras, but the system is not completely reliable. Sometimes it may read the speed limit sign on the side and misjudge it as the speed limit of the main road.
