TapTechNews May 12 news, the Rust Foundation recently issued a press release, announcing the receipt of a $1 million donation from platinum member Microsoft in December 2023 (approximately 7.23 million RMB). The investment will be used to support various key projects:
Hire an additional Rust Foundation infrastructure engineer
Fund the Rust Foundation Fellowship program
Develop new projects while reducing the workload of existing Rust project maintainers
The official also stated that the Rust Foundation board approved a motion in January 2024 to allocate $350,000 (approximately 2.53 million RMB) to hiring a new infrastructure engineer; and allocate $650,000 (approximately 4.69 million RMB) for directly funding priority items chosen by the engineers over the next two years.
In addition, the Rust Foundation, Rust project directors, and Rust project leadership committee summarized the most urgent areas of funding needs in the current Rust projects in the first quarter of 2024. The leadership committee is considering using most of the first $325,000 (approximately 2.35 million RMB) reserved for the Rust project to improve key processes, including developing new collaboration mechanisms to help improve the efficiency of maintainer workflows.
In addition to Microsoft, Google recently donated $1 million to the Rust Foundation, which will be used to improve interoperability between C++ and Rust.
