TapTechNews July 2nd news, sources in Taiwan, China @Mobile Chip Expert revealed that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is preparing to announce a price increase starting from January 1st of next year, mainly targeting 3/5nm, while other processes will maintain the original price.
It is said that TSMC plans to increase the quoted price of its 3/5nm process AI products by 5%-10%, and non-AI products by 0-5%.
Actually, last month, Taiwan's Commercial Times also said that TSMC has begun to spread the news of a price increase. The world's seven major technology giants (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Apple, and Google) will successively introduce TSMC's 3nm process. For example, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen4, MediaTek Dimensity 9400, and Apple's A18 and M4 series will all be made with the N3 family. Among them, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen4 based on the N3E process has taken the lead in increasing the price, with a sharp increase of 25% compared to the previous generation's quotation, and it is expected to exceed 250 US dollars (TapTechNews note: currently about 1822 Chinese Yuan).
However, the industry also points out that this increase is still within a reasonable range. Mainly, the wafer cost of 3nm itself has increased by about 25% compared to 5nm, and this increase has not taken into account factors such as the overall number of wafers and the design architecture.
TSMC President Wei Zhejia also emphasized that TSMC's process is very power-saving and the yield is relatively good. From the perspective of each die, TSMC is the cheapest, and he promised quarterly progress and annual improvement, and always provide customers with the most leading technology.
