Global xSIM-enabled Device Shipments to Surpass 9 Billion from 2024 to 2030

TapTechNews July 5th news, according to the latest eSIM Device Market Outlook report released by Counterpoint, from 2024 to 2030, the global shipment of xSIM-enabled devices will exceed 9 billion units, with a compound annual growth rate of 22% during this period. This prediction covers all form factors, including hardware-based eSIM (eUICC), iSIM (iUICC), nuSIM, and soft SIM.

The report said that with the launch of the eSIM-only iPhone model in the US in 2022, the industry has passed the inflection point and is entering a period of rapid growth. This is evidenced by the increasing number of original equipment manufacturers launching eSIM-enabled devices.

At present, smartphones have the highest adoption rate of eSIM on the consumer side. However, categories such as connected cars, gateways and routers, and drones (where replacing a physical SIM card can be very difficult) will also benefit greatly from the connection of eSIM or iSIM. In the long run, xSIM will become the default form factor in these industries.

The hypothesis is also supported by the increased adoption rate of this technology by global mobile network operators (MNO). Currently, there are more than 400 operators worldwide that support eSIM services, with an average of more than 50 consumer devices supported.

It is predicted in the report that by 2030, nearly 70% of all cellular communication device shipments will support eSIM/iSIM, mainly driven by smartphones and cellular Internet of Things modules. By 2030, the installed base of xSIM-enabled consumer devices is expected to exceed 2.5 billion units. The growth of iSIM-enabled devices is the fastest, with a compound annual growth rate of 160% from 2024 to 2030.

TapTechNews note: iSIM means integrating the SIM card into the processor. Qualcomm has released the world's first commercially deployable iSIM card in 2023, directly integrating the SIM card into the Snapdragon 8 Gen2.
