TapTechNews July 12th news, the tech media AndroidAuthority today published a blog post, uncovering that the Android 15 system will natively support the Thread Internet of Things protocol to serve users in building a smart home ecosystem.
Google has initially supported Thread in the Android 14 system, but only for Android TV OS 14, and in the Android 15 system, mobile phones also start to support Thread.
Thread is an open-standard wireless communication protocol, designed to be easily integrated into enterprise networks to reliably connect thousands of wireless products in commercial buildings.
The Thread technology does not depend on the home's Internet network or Wi-Fi, but connects the devices in the home by establishing a dedicated network, specifically providing a reliable network connection for low-power, battery-powered smart home devices distributed in the home.
In the settings of the Android 15 system, the Use Thread option has already appeared under the Connection Preferences menu, but it has not taken effect yet. TapTechNews attaches the media screenshot as follows:
Theoretically, after the user enables this option, Android phones no longer need to rely on a Thread border router such as Google TV to directly communicate with other Thread network devices, which will speed up the speed of some smart home operations and even allow them to run locally.
