Audacity is one of the most popular free cross-platform open-source audio editors. It can be downloaded and used on Windows, macOS, and GNU/Linux devices, and has been maintained and updated for a long time with rich features.
Audacity 3.6.0 has now been released, and some of the update contents are as follows:
Master Effect
Audacity now supports the master effect. The master effect refers to the effect applied to the entire project at once. More detailed information can be found in Using master effects & realtime effects . There is a gain reduction history added when these effects are used as real-time effects.
New Compressor and Limiter
A new compressor and limiter have been added to replace the previous versions. When these effects are used as real-time effects, a gain reduction history has been added. Vladislav Isaev and Marek Iwaszkiewicz have provided factory presets suitable for various scenarios, which can be obtained through the Presets & Settings button.
New Themes
Audacity now offers brand new and improved dark and light themes. You can switch between themes through Preferences -> Interface . The previously used themes still exist as classic themes, and earlier themes can be selectively installed as custom themes fromhere. Updated instructions on creating custom themes can be found here.
Performance Improvement
Audacity now has significantly improved performance when dealing with large projects and working on large screens.
