TapTechNews July 5th news, at today's 2024 Shanghai World Artificial Intelligence Conference, Alibaba Cloud CTO Zhou Jingren announced the latest progress of the recently Tongyi large model and the Alibaba Cloud Bailian platform:
In the nearly 2 months, the download volume of the Tongyi Qianwen open source model has increased by 2 times and exceeded 20 million times; the number of Alibaba Cloud Bailian service customers has increased from 90,000 to 230,000, with an increase of more than 150%.
Zhou Jingren reaffirmed Alibaba Cloud's firm stance of embracing open source and openness, 'Two years ago, we released the Tongyi large model series at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. At that time, we announced that the core model of Tongyi would be open source and open. Up to now, Tongyi Qianwen has achieved true full-size and full-modal open source, leveling the gap between open source and closed source models.'
TapTechNews noticed that Robin Li, the founder, chairman and CEO of Baidu, has a different view on this. During the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, open source is actually a kind of 'intelligence tax'. 'When you rationally think about what value the large model can bring and at what cost it can bring value, you will find that you should always choose the closed source model. Today, whether it is ChatGPT or Wenxin Yiyan and other closed source models, they must be more powerful and have a lower reasoning cost than the open source model.'
